The department chair is the Department of Educational Leadership's primary administrative officer, overseeing the department’s operation, faculty, curriculum, and budget.  They serve as liaisons between faculty, students, and higher administration, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the department and across the institution. They must possess a terminal degree in an academic discipline housed within the department.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:  

  1.  Leadership and Management:  Provide vision and strategic direction for the department, fostering a positive academic culture and promoting faculty development.
  2. Curriculum Oversight. Ensure the curriculum remains relevant, rigorous, and aligned with institutional goals while supporting faculty in course development and assessment.
  3. Budget and Resource Management:  Develop and manage the departmental budget, allocate resources effectively, and seek funding opportunities to support departmental initiatives.
  4. Faculty recruitment and evaluation:  Oversee faculty hiring, onboarding, and evaluations, ensuring a diverse and high-quality faculty body that meets the department’s needs. 
  5. Student Advocacy:  Address student concerns, advocate for student needs, and ensure a supportive learning environment.
  6. Collaboration and Outreach:  Foster relationships with other departments, industry partners, and alumni to enhance the department’s reputation and opportunities for students and faculty. 
  7. Research and Scholarship:  Encourage research activities among faculty and students, promoting a culture of inquiry and innovation.

Minimum Requirements for Entry into Position: 

PH.D in a related discipline in your department

Preferred Requirements for Entry into Position: 

At least 5 years of experience in higher education
